Stock 

Giving stock through electronic transfer is the easiest method when a donor maintains holdings in a brokered account. Raymond James Securities is the clearinghouse for electronic security transfers.
 
Effective January 1, 2018, the IRS no longer considers priority athletic seating contributions, including those made by gifts of stock, to be tax deductible. As with any contribution, please consult your tax professional about the impact this may have on you.

Donor Advised Funds (DAF) or payments from Charitable Foundations 

The CAF can accept gifts from Donor Advised Fund's (DAFs) and Charitable Foundations. IRS regulations prohibit the CAF from accepting gifts from DAFs and Charitable Foundations if they are associated with the right to purchase tickets.

IRA Distribution 

The CAF is qualified to accept charitable IRA rollovers from donors aged 70½ or older with qualifying IRAs. Additionally, the donor cannot receive benefits for this type of gift. Information contained herein was accurate at the time of posting. While an IRA charitable rollover gift can be made to Athletics, the IRS does not permit the donor to receive any Cougar Athletic priority points or other privileges, such as priority for season tickets, in exchange for the gift. Donor Advised Fund distributions are subject to the same restrictions. As with any contribution, please consult your tax professional about the impact this may have on you.

DAF Contribution and IRA Distribution Update EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2020
Effective July 1, 2020 – Donor Advised Fund (DAF) contributions and IRA distributions to facility, endowments, and sport - specific and departmental excellence funds accounts are eligible to receive priority points associated with the gift. DAF contributions and IRA distributions in support of the the WSU Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund are not eligible to receive points at this time.  

Employer Matching Gifts 

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy that allows for athletics contributions, and to view their guidelines, please click here or contact your company's human resource office to confirm eligibility.

DISCLAIMER: 
The Cougar Athletic Fund is not able to return gifts to donors as these monies are transferred to the athletics department on a regular basis throughout the year to cover expenses including scholarship costs, academic affairs, operational needs, and facilities projects.
 
Charitable Status: The Cougar Athletic Fund operates under the WSU Foundation 501(c)(3) charitable organization. CAF qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(A) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under Section 509(a)(1). Member contributions support the costs of athletic scholarships, academic support, sport-specific operational needs and capital projects.
